A Guide To Self – Render A Brick Wall In Your Home

Rendering is one of the most useful and effective ways to uplift the look of your property. It is essential, especially when you are presenting your house to someone who may be interested to buy it. Although rendering is a complex task, you can do it on your own provided you have the right tools and know the right procedures to be followed. All in all, it can be quite fun too! But do make sure that before you begin rendering of your house, it is better to practice the same on an older wall or a place.

What are the different materials required for rendering a house?

The most important piece of equipment for house rendering is the concrete render which will be available in the form of bags from any hardware or building material store. The cost of each bag varies from around $20 – $30 depending on the size and the brand.

Water; have plenty of supply of the same. Try to ensure that the supply is near the place where you are rendering.

If you do not want to purchase a separate render mixture from the market, you can make one of your own by mixing sand, concrete, lime, and water. Do note that the proportions of the materials depend on the type of the wall that you will render. Some will require 5 parts sand to 1 part of concrete while the others will require about 3 parts sand to 1 part concrete. It is better to check the same on the Internet.

The process

First, prepare the surface on which the render needs to be applied. Make sure that the surface is free from rust and grease. You can even use a broom to scrub off the dust from the surface. Do note that if the material is a metal, you will need to apply a dash coat since that will have a lower rate of absorption.

Mix the render mixture. Do make sure to follow the instructions that are given on the bag if you have decided to make your own mixture.

Then apply the render by first starting the brush at 45 degrees from the edge and applying a thin layer of about 3mm. If you want to apply a second coat, make sure to wait for a week at least after applying the first one.

When the renderers become firm in texture and touch, you can use a straight edge to make it flat and remove any hollow parts.
